The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies will take the field Saturday night for game two of three.
The Padres have won five of their last seven games, but are still three games below a .500 record and losing ground in the NL West race. The bright side for the Padres is that their offense is showing signs of life by scoring five or more runs in four of their last seven games. Jedd Gyorko has gone hitless in five straight games and Chase Headley has seven RBI in his last nine games. The Padres pitching remains solid and Robbie Erlin hopes that will continue, as he’s 2-4 with a 4.22 ERA and has 37 strikeouts in 42.2 innings. This will be Erlin’s second career start against the Rockies.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rockies have split their last 10 games and are hoping to get back on track offensively. The Rockies have been held to three or less runs in six of their last seven games, which is surprising considering they lead the majors in runs scored. Charlie Blackmon has eight RBI in his last nine games and Troy Tulowitzki has gotten on base at least once in 16 straight games. Getting the nod on Saturday is Jordan Lyles, who is 5-0 with a 2.66 ERA and has 32 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. Lyles is 1-2 with a 5.48 ERA in four career starts against the Padres.
The Padres are 1-5 in Erlin's last 6 starts and 2-5 in Erlin's last 7 starts as a road underdog. The Rockies are 4-1 in Lyles' last 5 starts and 8-2 in their last 10 during game 2 of a series.
Although both teams are capable of hitting the ball well and put runs on the board, Lyles has been terrific this season and doesn't give up much. I like the under in this matchup.
