The St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves face off on Saturday at Busch Stadium for game two of their series.
The St. Louis Cardinals have struggled at the plate this season but they got the hits when they needed them on Friday as they knocked off the Braves. Allen Craig had three hits and Matt Carpenter, Kolten Wong, Yadier Molina, and Matt Adams each had two hits as the Cardinals scored five runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out three over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 5-2 for the season and Trevor Rosenthal earned his 12th save. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who has won his last four starts. For the season Miller has allowed 39 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 33 over 44.2 innings for a 5-2 record and a 3.22 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves have run hot and cold this season and on Friday they weren’t able to come up with enough to get the win. Chris Johnson had two hits and Freddie Freeman, Jason Heyward, and Justin Upton all had hits as the Braves scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-1 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Braves start Aaron Harang who won his last start to end a personal two game losing streak. For the season Harang has allowed 40 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 52 over 48.1 innings for a 403 record and a 2.98 ERA.
St. Louis is 37-15 at home this season, 1-5 in game two of a series, and 6-1 in Miller’s last seven home starts. Atlanta is 9-3 against the AL Central, 2-6 against a team with a winning record, and 0-5 as an underdog. Atlanta is 2-6 in their last eight games against St. Louis.
