The Minnesota Twins will go for the sweep over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
The Mariners continue their freefall, losing four straight and seven of their last 10 games, dropping two games below a .500 record. The Mariners are still having issues putting runs on the board, scoring just eight runs in their last four games and dropping to 3-17 when scoring three or less runs. Robinson Cano still has only one homerun, but Justin Smoak has three hits and two walks in this series. Getting the nod Sunday will be Felix Hernandez, who is 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA and has 60 strikeouts in 59.1 innings. Hernandez is 6-5 with a 2.07 ERA in 15 career starts against the Twins.
USA TODAY Sports
The Twins have won five of their last six games and are over .500 for the first time since April 26th. While the Twins pitching rotation continues to be up and down, the offense has produced four or more runs in seven of their last nine games to keep of make up for it. Kurt Suzuki has doubled in three straight games and has an eight-game hitting streak, while Brian Dozier has homered in back-to-back games. Getting the nod Sunday is Ricky Nolasco, who is 2-3 with a 5.51 ERA and has 34 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. This will be Nolasco’s second career start against the Mariners.
The Mariners are 7-3 in Hernandez's last 10 starts as a road favorite and 1-5 in Hernandez's last 6 starts vs. American League Central. The Twins are 1-9 in their last 10 vs. American League West and 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a right-handed starter.
I don't trust the Mariners lineup, but it's tough to pick against Hernandez at this price. I'll take my chances.
