The New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Tuesday at Citi Field in game one of their series.
The New York Mets have been up and down this season but at the end of it all they are very much in the thick of the race in the NL East. The Mets are 9-12 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and are 3.5 games back in the National League East. As a team the Mets are hitting .229 with Daniel Murphy hitting .318, David Wright hitting .287, and Lucas Duda hitting .250. The Mets pitching staff has an ERA of 3.83 with the starters at 3.95 and the bullpen at 3.60. For game one against the Dodgers the Mets start Rafael Montero who makes his second career start. In his first outing Montero allowed five hits and thee runs with striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t been playing up to their expectations but last season they started slow and ended up winning the NL West. The Dodgers are 14-9 on the road, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two games. The Dodgers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.68 with the starters at 3.27 and the bullpen at 4.38. For game on in Queens the Dodgers start Josh Beckett who is coming off of his first win of the season. For the season Beckett has allowed 29 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 40 over 41.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 2.38 ERA.
New York is 4-9 against a team with a winning record, 2-6 following a loss, and 1-4 in their last five home games. Los Angeles is 2-5 in their last seven road games, 3-7 in game one of a series, and 0-6 in Beckett’s last six road starts. Los Angeles is 6-1 in their last seven games in New York.
While Beckett now has a win I still have little faith in him and my play here is on the Mets.
