The Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres battle in interleague action on Wednesday.
Minnesota hasn't experienced many positives the past few years so playing .500 ball this 'late' in the season is very surprising. The Twins defeated San Diego 5-3 on Tuesday for win number seven in the last eleven. Starter Kevin Correia had one of his stronger efforts with all three runs plated on four hits over six innings. The Twins bats didn't crush the ball with seven hits and a pair of BB with Chris Parmelee and Kurt Suzuki slamming long balls. Minnesota leans on a red hot Phil Hughes to steal a win at San Diego Wednesday. Hughes has recorded five consecutive quality starts with a combined seven runs allowed over 32.1 innings.

I think the question concerning San Diego is whether they can reach and maintain a .500 record over the long haul. That would be a huge accomplishment which would require some consistent scoring. That didn't happen Tuesday and Ian Kennedy couldn't control the Minnesota offense either. Kennedy was charged with four runs on six hits and two base on balls in six innings to take the loss. The Padres posted five hits and walked three times with Jedd Gyorko, Yasmani Grandal and Ian Kennedy driving in runs in the third. Right hander Tyson Ross toes the rubber against the big offense of Minnesota. Ross has been at the top of his game the last three times out with a single run given up in each covering 21 innings.
I think the Padres with Ross on the hill have the edge here and probably win but I won't pay to see it. I'd rather look elsewhere or take a small shot on the visitors...
