The Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners face off on Wednesday in in Arlington as they continue their AL West series.
The Texas Rangers are going to need to regroup if they are going to contend this season as they slipped further in the standings losing to Seattle on Tuesday. Adrian Beltre had two hits including a home run, Mitch Moreland had two hits, and Alex Rios and Elvis Andrus added hits as the Rangers scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Colby Lewis allowed nine hits and five runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Rangers start Nick Tepesch who makes his second stat of the season. In his first start against the Astros Tepesch allowed two hits and a runs striking out eight over 5.1 innings not getting a decision.
The Seattle Mariners are an improved team over what we have seen in recent years and they looked good getting the win on Tuesday. Kyle Seager had three hits and Robinson Cano, Nick Franklin, and Dustin Ackley each had two hits as the Mariners scored six runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma allowed six hits and two runs while striking out three over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Mariners start Chris Young who took his first loss of the year in his last start. For the season Young has allowed 34 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 18 over 44.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 3.22 ERA.
Texas is 41-21 against the AL West, 18-7 as a home favorite, and 2-5 in Tepesch’s last seven home stats. Seattle is 5-2 as a road underdog, 6-1 against the AL West, and 4-1 in Young’s last five starts. Seattle is 4-7 in their last 11 games against Texas.
Tepesch looked good last time out but I am not convinced we see any carry over so I will go with Young and the Mariners.
