The Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Thursday at Turner Field as they close out their series.
The Atlanta Braves lead the NL East but fell to the Brewers on Wednesday. Justin Upton had three hits and Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward each had hits as the Braves scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Ervin Santana allowed nine hits and six runs while striking out two over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-2 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Braves start Aaron Harang who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Harang has allowed 46 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 59 over 54.1 innings for a 4-4 record and a 2.98 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Milwaukee Brewers lead in the NL Central has been shrinking of late but they helped themselves on Wednesday getting the win in Atlanta. Carlos Gomez had three hits including a home run, Scooter Gennett had two hits, and Mark Reynolds hit a home run as the Brewers scored six runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Lohse allowed four hits and a run while striking out eight over 8.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 6-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game Milwaukee starts Matt Garza who has lost two of his last three decisions. For the season Garza has allowed 54 hits and 29 runs while striking out 46 over 54 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.83 ERA.
Atlanta is 7-2 as a favorite, 12-5 against the NL Central, and 82-37 in their last 119 home games. Milwaukee is 6-20 in game for of a series, 1-4 in their last five road games, and 2-5 as an underdog. Milwaukee is 3-11 in their last 14 games in Atlanta.
While Garza always seems to have a following, his record never seems to back it up and I will take the Braves to take this one.
