The Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants face off on Thursday at Coors Field in a matchup of the top two teams in the NL West.
The Colorado Rockies have been rock solid at home this season but they dropped a game to the Giants on Wednesday. Charlie Blackmon, Michael Cuddyer, and Wilin Rosario each had hits as the Rockies scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin allowed four hits and three runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss. For Thursday’s game the Rockies start Jorge De La Rosa who has won his last five starts. For the season De La Rosa has allowed 40 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 41 over 50 innings for a 5-3 record and a 4.14 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants continue to lead the NL West and they extended their lead another game beating the Rockies on Wednesday. Hunter Pence, Pablo Sandoval, and Brandon Crawford all hit home runs as the Giants scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Matt Cain left after three scoreless innings as Yumiero Petit got the win to go to 2-1 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Giants start Tim Hudson who missed his last start with an injury. For the season Hudson has allowed 45 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 38 over 60.1 innings for a 4-2 record and a 2.09 ERA.
Colorado is 5-2 in their last seven home games, 8-3 as a favorite, and 40-11 in De La Rosa’s last 51 home starts. San Francisco is 5-1 on the road against a left-handed starter, 5-2 against the NL West, and 6-2 in Hudson’s last eight starts. San Francisco is 2-4 in their last six games in Colorado.
