The Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers face off on Thursday in Detroit for game one of their series.
The Detroit Tigers return home after having a rough go of it in Cleveland but still securely in first place in the AL Central. The Tigers are 13-8 at home, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last three games. As a team the Tigers are hitting .277 with Victor Martinez hitting .329, Miguel Cabrera hitting .321, and Ian Kinsler hitting .317. The Tigers pitching staff has an ERA of 3.25 with the starters at 2.82 and the bullpen at 4.17. For game one against the Rangers the Tigers start Robbie Ray who has worked out of the bullpen and as a starter. For the season Ray has allowed 10 hits and a run while striking out eight over 12.0 innings for a 1-0 record and a 0.75 ERA.

The Texas Rangers are sitting in fourth place in the AL West standings and are two games under .500. The Rangers are 9-11 on the road, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a win against the Mariners. As a team the Rangers are hitting .257 with Shin-Soo CHoo hitting .310, Alex Rios hitting .301, and Leonys Martin hitting .282. The Rangers pitching staff has an ERA of 4.45 with the starters at 4.50 and the bullpen at 4.37. For game one against the Tigers the Rangers start Yu Darvish who is coming off of a loss in his last start despite allowing just two runs. For the season Darvish has allowed 43 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 65 over 54.1 innings for a 3-2 record and a 2.32 ERA.
Detroit is 5-1 as an underdog, 20-9 in their last 29 games, and 7-3 as a home underdog. Texas is 8-17 in game one of a series, 1-4 in their last five road games, and 9-2 in Darvish’s last 11 starts. Texas is 9-21 in their last 30 games in Detroit.
While Darvsish is the better pitcher, this game just doesn’t seem to fit the profile of the spots where the Rangers have been successful so I am on the Tigers here in just a lean.
