The Houston Astros travel to Safeco Field to open up a series with the Seattle Mariners.
Houston isn't going to win many games in 2014 but when the pitching allows just two runs that has to go in the win column. Unfortunately that wasn't the case Wednesday in a 2-1 road loss to the Angels. Collin McHugh was the tough luck loser with both runs plated on four hits and a pair of base on balls through seven frames with Albert Pujols' 6th inning solo jack doing McHugh in. The bats had a hand in doing him in as well with a mere two hits and a walk with George Springer connecting on a 4th inning homer. Jarred Cosart has thrown the ball well over his last three outings. Cosart has gone 2-1 in this stretch with a 2.50 ERA with 19 hits and nine base on balls allowed covering 18 innings.

Seattle might not win the American League West but they have been competitive with a record close to .500. The Mariners hot streak of a few weeks back is a distant memory with Wednesday's 4-3 defeat at Texas saddling the team with defeats in seven of eleven. Chris Young gave up all four runs on seven hits and a trio of BB including a pair of homers. The Mariners posted five hits and three walks with Robinson Cano going deep and driving in two while Michael Saunders drove in another. Lefty Roenis Elias takes the mound in the series opener with the Astros Thursday night. Elias has struggled in back to back outings with seven runs given up on 15 hits over 12 innings pitched.
Not really a lot to like about either team right now with Houston having an edge on the mound on paper. I won't be playing the Astros because I absolutely don't trust their pen and the offense can disappear so take this for what it's worth...
