The Boston Red Sox hope to snap a massive losing streak when they take the field against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.
The Red Sox have all of a sudden lost eight straight games and have fallen to last place in the AL East. While the Red Sox pitching staff hasn’t been anything pretty, currently with the 18th worst ERA, the lineup has produced three or fewer runs in six of their last eight games. The Red Sox are 1-17 when scoring three or less runs. David Ortiz has just one hit in his last five games, while Dustin Pedroia has stuck out three times in his last six at bats. Jake Peavy gets the nod, and he’s 1-2 with a 4.33 ERA and has 43 strikeouts in 54 innings. Peavy is 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA in seven career starts against the Rays.

The Rays have won two straight games for the sixth time this season and are seven games below a .500 record. Although the Rays pitching staff has the 20th worst ERA in baseball, they have allowed just three or less runs in four straight games. Like the Red Sox, offense has also been a challenge for the Rays, but Evan Longoria does have four hits in his last two games. Getting the nod Saturday will be David Price, who is 4-4 with a 4.28 ERA and has 77 strikeouts in 69.1 innings. Price is 10-6 with a 2.93 ERA in 20 career starts against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are 1-4 in Peavy's last 5 road starts and Red Sox are 9-3 in their last 12 during game 2 of a series. The Rays are 7-3 in Price's last 10 starts as a home favorite and 9-4 in Price's last 13 starts vs. American League East.
There's no way I'm picking the Red Sox with the way they're playing, especially with Price on the mound for the Rays. While Tampa Bay hasn't been much better this season, anything is better than what the Red Sox have shown over the last week.
