The Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland A’s face off on Saturday in Toronto in game two of their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays are in first place in the American League East and they kept that spot by winning on Friday. Steve Tollerson hit a home run and Jose Reyes, Jose Bautista, and Edwin Encarnacion each had hits as the Blue Jays scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Liam Hendriks allowed three hits and a run while striking out three over 5.2 innings to get the win and Casey Janssen earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Blue Jays start R.A. Dickey who lost his last start but who is generally much tougher at home. For the season Dickey has allowed 53 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 50 over 60 innings for a 4-4 record and a 4.20 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Oakland A’s continue to lead the AL West but they fell a game back closer to the pack losing on Friday. Brandon Moss had two hits including a home run and Coco Crisp and Jed Lowrie had hits as the A’s scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed five hits and three runs while striking out two over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the A’s start Jesse Chavez who has won three of his last four starts. For the season Chavez has allowed 46 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 57 over 56.2 innings for a 4-1 record and a 2.54 ERA.
Toronto has won five in a row as an underdog, 4-1 in their last five home games, and 4-0 in Dickey’s last four home starts. Oakland is 4-1 against a team with a winning record, 6-2 in their last eight road games, and 8-1 in Chavez’s last nine starts.
Both of these teams are playing well and with Dickey being tough at home and Chavez just being tough it makes this pick a difficult one but my play is Oakland in what is a lean.
