The Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers face off on Sunday for game four of their series at Tiger Stadium.
The Detroit Tigers lead the AL Central but they have been on shaky ground on the diamond as we saw once again on Saturday where they were blown out by the Rangers. Ian Kinsler and Victor Martinez each had three hits and Austin Jackson was among those with two hits as the Tigers managed just two runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello was clubbed as he allowed 12 hits and eight runs while striking five over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-2 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Tigers start Justin Verlander who has lost two of his last three starts. For the season Verlander has allowed 67 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 49 over 66 innings for a 5-3 record and a 3.55 ERA.

The Texas Rangers are not having a very good season but on Saturday they feasted on the Tigers throwing them a beating. Adrian Beltre and Donnie Murphy each had two hit including a home run as Rougned Odor had four hits and Alex Rios had three hits as the Rangers scored 12 runs on 19 hits. Starting pitcher Nicholas Martinez allowed eight hits and a run while striking out two over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 1-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Colby Lewis who has lost two of his last three starts. For the season Lewis has allowed 54 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 35 over 36.2 innings for a 3-3 record and a 5.40 ERA.
Detroit is 6-3 against the AL West, 1-5 in their last six games, and 6-2 in Verlander’s last eight starts. Texas is 5-0 in game four of a series, 9-20 as an underdog, and 5-2 in Lewis’ last seven starts as a road underdog. Texas is 11-22 in their last 33 games in Detroit.
This is a monster price to pay for a Tigers team that is slumping so badly but I like them better than playing Lewis here but there are better games out there.
