The Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins will play a rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
The Brewers continue their slump by losing six of their last eight games and are quickly losing ground in the NL Central. The Brewers lack of offense has hurt them during this stretch, as they’ve been held to three or less runs in five of their last eight games. Despite Ryan Braun returning to the lineup, the Brewers scored only one run and struck out eight times in Saturday’s loss. Carlos Gomez, however, does have six hits and two RBI. Getting the nod Sunday will be Jimmy Nelson, who is 0-0 with a 0.90 ERA and has eight strikeouts in 10 innings. This will be Nelson’s first career game against the Marlins.
USA TODAY Sports
The Marlins have won five of their last eight games and improve to a ridiculous 20-7 at home. The Marlins have yet to lose back-to-back home games and are 20-9 this season when scoring more than three runs. Giancarlo Stanton has gotten on base at least once in five straight games and Garrett Jones has six RBI in his last five games. The Marlins pitching has allowed four or more runs in six of their last nine games. Getting the nod is Randy Wolf, who is 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA and has five strikeouts in five innings. Wolf is 5-4 with a 4.40 ERA in 16 career starts against the Brewers.
The Brewers are 19-7 in their last 26 during game 3 of a series and 7-3 in their last 10 games vs. a left-handed starter. The Marlins are 6-1 in their last 7 during game 3 of a series and 23-7 in their last 30 home games. The Brewers are 20-6 in the last 26 meetings.
With the way the Marlins are capable of hitting the ball and the fact they're at home against a rookie pitcher, it's hard not to like the fish in this spot. Give me the Marlins to stay hot in front of their home fans.
