The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres face off on Monday in Arizona in game one of their NL Wes series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are still trying to recover from their horrible start but they enter this series 12 games under .500. Arizona is 6-18 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they won two of three against the Mets this past weekend. As a team the Diamondbacks are hitting .251 with Paul Goldschmidt hitting .305, A.J. Pollock hitting .286, and Chris Owings is hitting .266. The Arizona pitching staff has an ERA of 4.56 with the starters at 5.08 and the bullpen at 4.56. For game one against the Padres the Diamondbacks start Brandon McCarthy who has two no decisions in his last three starts. Fro the season McCarthy has allowed 65 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 55 over 61.2 innings for a 1-6 record and a 4.67 ERA.

The San Diego Padres have had trouble scoring runs this season but they are just five games under .500 with plenty of baseball left to play. The Padres are 9-13 on the road this season, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are 9.5 games behind the Giants in the NL West. As a team the Padres are hitting .222 with Seth Smith hitting .317, Everth Cabrera hitting .240, and Chase Headley hitting .207. The Padres pitching staff has an ERA of 3.11 with the starters at 3.63 and the bullpen at 2.13. For game one against the Diamondbacks the Padres start Tyson Ross who is coming off of a loss in his last outing. For the season Ross has allowed 54 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 61 over 64.2 innings for a 5-4 record and a 2.64 ERA.
Arizona is 4-9 as a favorite, 7-21 in their last 28 home games, and 3-13 in McCarthy’s last 16 home starts. San Diego is 2-5 as a road underdog, 2-6 against the NL West, and 4-1 in Ross’ last five starts.
