The Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians face off on Monday at US Cellular Field in game one of their AL Central series.
The Chicago White Sox have been banged up early and while they are in fourth place in the AL Central, they are far from out of it as far as the division race goes. The White Sox are 13-12 at home, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two games. As a team the White Sox are hitting .262 with Alexei Ramirez hitting .322, Dayan Viciedo hitting .279, and Gordon Beckham is hitting .289. As a team the White Sox pitching staff has an ERA of 4.71 with the starters at 5.10 and the bullpen at 4.05. For game one against the Indians the White Sox start Jose Quintana who has two losses and a win in his last three starts. For the season Quintana has allowed 62 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 49 over 61.1 innings for a 2-4 record and a 3.67 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians continue to look for answers but the answer seems to be that they just aren’t a string enough team this season to contend and compete. The Indians are 9-16 on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they are in last place in the AL Central. As a team the Indians are hitting .253 with Michael Brantley hitting .302, Yan Gomes hitting .280, and David Murphy hitting .269. As a team the Cleveland pitching staff has an ERA of 4.16 with the starters at 4.81 and the bullpen at 3.04. For game one against the White Sox the Indians start Josh Tomlin who has won three of his four decisions. For the season Tomlin has allowed 17 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 14 over 21.2 innings for a 3-1 record and a 2.91 ERA.
Chicago is 5-1 in game one of a series, 1-5 against a team with a losing record, and 2-5 in Quintana’s last seven starts. Cleveland is 6-0 against the AL Central, 5-13 in their last 18 road games, and 2-5 in Tomlin’s last seven starts as an underdog. Cleveland is 12-4 in their last 16 games in Chicago.
This should be a good game in a good series and while Tomlin has had success this season, most of his action has been at home so I will go with the White Sox here.
