The Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins face off on Monday in Washington for game one of their NL East series.
The Washington Nationals are in third place in the NL east but they haven’t been on top of their game of late. Washington is 14-12 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are a half of a game behind the Marlins for second place in the National League East. As a team the nationals are hitting .244 with Jayson Werth hitting .277, Denard Span hitting .264, and Anthony Rendon hitting .258. The nationals pitching staff has an ERA of 3.24 with the starters at 3.86 and the bullpen at 2.12. For game one against the Marlins the Nats start Tanner Roark who is coming off of a loss but it was a game where he allowed just one earned run. For the season Roark has allowed 48 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 42 over 55.1 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.42 ERA.

The Miami Marlins are one of the surprises in baseball this season and they are in second place in the NL East. Miami is 6-17 on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they have outscored their opponents by 20 runs. As a team the Marlins are hitting .263 with Giancarlo Stanton hitting .307, Casey McGehee hitting .281, and Garrett Jones hitting .274. The Marlins pitching staff has an ERA of 3.82 with the starters at 3.78 and the bullpen at 3.90. For game one against the Nationals the Marlins start Nathan Eovaldi who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Eovaldi has allowed 65 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 52 over 60.2 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.41 ERA.
Washington is 8-3 against a team with a winning record, 2-4 in their last six games, and 5-2 in their last seven starts as a favorite. Miami is 4-1 following a loss, 8-1 against the NL East, and 0-4 in Eovaldi’s last four road starts. Miami is 7-20 in the last 27 meetings of these two.
I like the Marlins here and this is a pick I considered putting in the Premium Area but it is borderline so it a free pick here.
