The New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates square off at Citi Field in Wedneday action.
Pittsburgh has been playing well and need to after a slow start to the 2014 campaign. The road to recovery took a step back in a 4-2 defeat at Citi Field on Tuesday although the Buccos have still won six of nine. The Pirates used a late rally to defeat the Mets Monday but that magic was nowhere to be found Tuesday with Edinson Volquez receiving a ND with two runs scored in five frames because Jeanmar Gomez followed with a pair of runs allowed in 1/3 of an inning. The Pirates had their chances on five hits and eight BB but mustered just a two run single from Starlin Marte. Sinkerballer Charlie Morton gets the call versus the Mets on Wednesday. Morton looks to build on his first win of the season when he defeated Washington 4-3 with a run plated on five hits in 5.2 innings.

The Mets offense has been struggling to score runs and consequently that has hurt the team badly in the win column. The bats had problems once again Tuesday but the work on the mound was strong enough to win on their lonesome. Starter Jonathan Niese held Pittsburgh to a pair of runs on three hits and four free passes through 5.2 innings pitched with two relievers putting zeros on the scoreboard. The New Yorkers totaled seven hits and six bases on balls with Juan Lagares leading the way with two hits and two RBI's while also scoring. Veteran Bartolo Colon takes the bump against Pittsburgh hoping to gain some consistency. Colon was in top form in a 5-2 decion over the Nationals with both runs scored on five hits over eight frames.
This doesn't look like a great game with the pirates and Mets struggling to score while the Mets bullpen is awful. I'm going with the home team in coin flip...
