The Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins continue their battle for second in the NL East.
Miami has been struggling mightily away from home and I think it's fair to say they could be leading the National League East with better play on the road. The Marlins did take a step in the right direction in a 3-2 decision at Washington Monday behind Nathan Eovaldi who gave up both runs on three hits and a walk in 6.1 innings to raise his record to 4-2. The offense did just enough with Giancarlo Stanton going deep with a pair of RBI's and runs scored while Casey McGhee knocked in one. The Marlins turn to Henderson Alvarez to give them consecutive victories over the Nationals. Alvarez is coming in off a 4-3 victory over Philadelphia where he tossed a four hit shutout over seven innings.

The Nationals are simply having a difficult time stringing wins together for the second straight season and it's costing them in the standings. Washington fell to third in the National League East following a series opening loss to the Marlins. Tanner Roark was a tough luck loser with all three runs allowed on five hits and a free pass over seven frames to fall to 3-3. That was still to much for the Nationals attack to overcome with their three hits and a base on balls. Adam LaRoche was the offense when he clubbed a two run homer in the 6th. Jordan Zimmermann Zimmermann toes the rubber against visiting Miami in third start versus the Fish in 2014. Zimmermann has struggled the past three times out with a 1-1 record and 6.11 ERA.
I am beginning to think this season is going to be similar to 2013 as far as Washington is concerned. I'm not 100% confident in Miami on the road either and have zero interest so I may as well go with the dog...
