The Minnesota Twins and the Texas Rangers face off on Thursday afternoon at Target Field as they close out their series.

The Minnesota Twins held the Rangers down but they couldn’t get the bats going themselves as they took the loss o Wednesday. Brian Dozier, Josh Willingham, and Oswaldo Arcia each had hits as the Twins failed to score on six hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Gibson allowed six hits and no runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision and Jared Burton took the loss to fall to 1-2 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Twins start Samuel Deduno who took a loss in his last start. For the season Deduno has allowed 38 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 33 over 41.1 innings for a 1-3 record and a 3.48 ERA.

The Texas Rangers didn’t get a ton of offense on Wednesday but they didn’t need much as they got the win against the Twins. Leonys martin had two hits and scored a run, Luis Sardinas had a hit and a RBI, and Mitch Moreland, Alex Rios, and Adrian Beltre each had hits as the Rangers scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Joe Saunders allowed five hits and struck out six over 5.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Shawn Tolleson got the win to go to 1-1 for the season and Joakim Soria earned his ninth save. For Thursday’s game the Rangers start Nicholas Martinez who got his first career win in his last start. For the season Martinez has allowed 33 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 18 over 33.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 2.14 ERA.

Minnesota is 7-4 in their last 11 home games, 2-8 as a home favorite, and 5-0 in Deduno’s last five starts against the AL West. Texas is 6-2 in their last eight games, 4-8 as an underdog, and 1-4 against a team with a losing record. Texas is 2-5 in the last seven meetings with the Twins.

We didn’t see much scoring on Wednesday but I expect plenty here and my free pick is on the over. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
