The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets face off on Friday for game two of their series.
The Philadelphia Phillies are in last place in the NL East and didn’t help their cause on Thursday taking the loss to open the series. Marlon Byrd hit a home run, Ben Revere had a hit, and Carlos Ruiz had a hit as the Phillies scored one run on four hits. Starting pitcher David Buchanan allowed seven hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out two over 6.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Friday’s game the Phillies start A.J. Burnett who has lost three of his last four starts. For the season Burnett has allowed 64 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 53 over 66.2 innings for a 3-4 record and a 3.51 ERA.

For Friday’s game the Mets start Rafael Montero who has yet to win in the majors. For the season Montero has allowed 14 hits and nine runs while striking out 17 over 16.1 innings for a 0-2 record and a 4.96 ERA.
Philadelphia is 4-2 as a home favorite, 4-1 at home against a right-handed starter, and 4-0 in Burnett’s last four starts against the NL East. New York is 8-2 on the road against a team with a losing record, 3-8 in game two of a series, and 5-14 against a right-handed starter. New York is 7-2 in the last nine meetings of these two.
With the total at eight the number looks about right but it is a small lean to the over. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
