The San Diego Padres are already 10 games back in the NL West but that hasn’t stopped them from trying as they won again on Saturday. Will Venable had four hits, and Everth Cabrera and Rene Rivera each had two hits as the Padres scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Voss allowed five hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out five over 6.0 innings for the win to go to 6-4 for the season and Huston Street earned his 17th save. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Eric Stults who has lost three of his last four decisions. For the season Stults has allowed 75 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 26 over 56.2 innings for a 2-5 record and a 4.92 ERA.
Chicago is 1-5 in their last six interleague games, 4-1 in their last five interleague games against a left-handed starter, and 4-1 in Sales’ last five home starts. San Diego is 3-5 in their last eight interleague road games, 4-10 as an interleague road underdog, and 6-14 in Stults’ last 20 road starts.
The White Sox have been punchless in their last two but with Sale going it won’t matter as they win in a cakewalk.
