The Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies face off on Wednesday in Washington in a NL East matchup.
The Washington Nationals have been disappointing so far this season but on Tuesday they looked dominant blowing out the Phillies. Anthony Rendon and Ian Desmond each hit home runs and Denard Span added three hits as the Nationals scored seven runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman didn’t allow much as he allowed five hits and struck out four over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-2 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Strasburg has allowed 76 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 90 over 74.1 inning for a 4-4 record and a 3.15 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies just had no answers on Tuesday as they were shutout in Washington. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, and Ryan Howard all had hits as the Phillies had six hits in all. Starting pitcher David Buchanon allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-2 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Phillies start A.J. Burnett who has lost three of his last four decisions. For the season Burnett has allowed 69 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 64 over 73.2 innings for a 3-4 record and a 3.79 ERA.
Washington is 4-7 in their last 11 games, 2-7 in game two of a series, and 14-6 in Strasburg’s last 20 starts. Philadelphia is 24-50 as an underdog, 1-5 in their last six games, and 7-3 in Burnett’s last 10 starts. Philadelphia is 1-7 in their last eight games in Washington.
Washington is a big favorite here and I give them the edge as well and they are the pick.
