PNC Park and the Pittsburgh Pirates play host to the Milwaukee Brewers in a NL Central tilt Friday night.
The Brewers are still sitting in first in the NL Central thanks to their hot start but they can't rest on their laurels with Cincinnati, St Louis and Pittsburgh still in the hunt. The Brewers generally have gotten good pitching and hitting and need to continue to get both going forward because the competition will heat up as the season matures. Wily Peralta served up a grand slam in the third but lasted five innings to even his record at 5-5. The offense erupted on a three run blast from Carlos Gomez with Khris Davis smacking a two run bomb while Jonathan Lucroy went deep and knocked in two. Kyle Lohse will be on the bump in game one of the series at Pittsburgh. Lohse has been one reason the Brewers sit atop the division with a 7-1 record 2.60 ERA over 12 outings.

Pittsburgh is the direct opposite of their NL Central counterparts as 2014 began slow with the Pirates picking up the pace lately. The Buccos probably aren't as concerned with first place as they are in reaching .500 and then going from there. The Pirates come in to their series off of a 3-2 defeat at San Diego as their bid for the sweep fell just short. A struggling Francisco Liriano pitched well enough to win with all three runs allowed (two earned) on a hit and six BB. The bats received a solo shot off the bat of Andrew McCutchen and a run scoring hit from Josh Harrison but nothing else. Pittsburgh is scheduled to start Brandon Cumpton Friday's start versus visiting Milwaukee. Cumpton is in need of a big rebound from a 12-2 loss at Los Angeles in which he was charged with eleven runs in 3.1 frames.
Kyle Lohse has generally fared well when facing the Pirates and Milwaukee has also done well in this match up. I'm looking at the Brew Crew at good odds...
