After an 11-inning game, the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics play game two of three on Saturday.
No matter what it takes, the Athletics just seem to get the job done, as they’ve won six of their last seven games. The Athletics offense has really taken off recently, as they’ve scored four or more runs in nine of their last 11 games and are 29-8 when scoring more than three runs this season. Of course, the A’s also have the league’s best ERA at 2.90. Josh Donaldson has scored nine runs in his last nine games and Coco Crisp has a 10-game hitting streak. Getting the nod is Sonny Gray, who is 6-1 with a 2.45 ERA and has 65 strikeouts in 80.2 innings. This will be Gray’s second career start against the Orioles.
USA TODAY Sports
The Orioles continue to be one of the more inconsistent teams in the league, as they’ve lost six of their last 10 games. One positive is that the Orioles pitching has shown signs of improving, allowing three or less runs in four of their last eight games, which is an improvement from their season ERA of 4.23. Offensively, Adam Jones has 10 hits in his last five games and Nelson Cruz has scored eight runs in his last 10 games. Kevin Gausman gets the nod, and he’s 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA and has two strikeouts in four innings. This will be Gausman’s first career game against the Athletics.
The Athletics are 6-1 in Gray's last 7 road starts and 8-3 in Gray's last 11 starts overall. The Orioles are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. American League West and 1-5 in their last 6 home games vs. a right-handed starter. The Athletics are 76-36 in the last 112 meetings against the Orioles.
While there's no line just yet, I'm going to back the A's in this game with Gray on the mound. I just can't trust the Orioles in this spot and don't think they're going to be very successful against Oaklan's ace. Just make sure the price is fair before placing your wager. If not, avoid all together.
