The Toronto Blue Jays and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Saturday in Toronto for game two of their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays are putting distance between themselves and the chasers in the AL East and they continued that trend getting the win over the Cardinals on Friday. Brett Lawrie had two hits including a home run, Jose Bautista hit a home run, and Jose Reyes had three hits as the Blue Jays scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Marcus Stroman allowed seven hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-0 for the season and Casey Janssen earned his 11th save. For Saturday’s game the Blue Jays start Mark Buehrle who is having the best season of his career. For the season Buehrle has allowed 77 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 46 over 81.1 innings for a 10-1 record and a 2.10 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals have had trouble scoring runs and we saw it once again on Friday as they fell to the Jays. Allen Craig had two hits and Matt Holliday and Jon Jay had hits as the Cardinals scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-4 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who has lost his last three starts. For the season Miller has allowed 65 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 48 over 68.2 innings for a 6-5 record and a 4.06 ERA.
Toronto is 6-0 in their last six interleague games, 25-7 in their last 32 games, and 19-7 in Buehrle’s last 26 starts. St. Louis is 5-2 in game two of a series, 2-7 in their last nine interleague games as an underdog, and 4-1 in Miller’s last five starts in game two of a series. St. Louis has lost the last five meetings against Toronto.
The Blue Jays are just the far better team here and the get the best of this one once again.
