The Detroit Tigers look to strengthen their grip on first in the AL Central with a win at the Chicago White Sox.
The Tigers were one of the more feared teams in the game before slowing down over the past few weeks. On paper Detroit has the best combination of hitting and pitching in the American League Central and need to get both heading in the right direction once again. Detroit dropped a 5-3 decision to Boston on Sunday thanks to another horrific bullpen implosion in the 9th. Anibal Sanchez gave up two runs in six innings but Joba Chamberlain gives up a one out three run jack to David Ortiz in the 9th. Nice job. The Tigers received a two run single from Eugenio Suarez and an RBI base hit from Victor Martinez but were quiet otherwise. Detroit opens the series with Rick Porcello on the mound versus the White Sox. Porcello is off to an 8-3 start with a 3.69 ERA over 70.2 innings pitched.

After Saturday's crushing defeat at the hands of the Angels I wanted to see how the White Sox would respond and it wasn't good. The Angels ground out a 4-2 win which saddled Chicago with three straight losses heading in to a first place battle with the Tigers. Jose Quintana was carged with all four runs on seven hits and four free passes over 4.1 frames to fall to 3-6. The offense stalled on seven hits with a pair of runs scored in the 8th but the scoring hasn't been real consistent nwhich has put the burden of winning on the pitching. The White Sox send Hector Noesi to the bump who has logged three straight quality starts with just five runs scored over 19.1 innings.
I really don't like what I've seen from either team lately so I'm just going with Porcello who has enjoyed great success in this match up. No bet from me because I can't stomach their bullpen...
