The Los Angeles Dodgers travel to Great American Ball Park to begin a series with the Cincinnati Reds.
With San Francisco already threatening to break open the National League West race which means the Dodgers need to do a lot of winning and very little losing to stay competitive. Los Angeles didn't lose any ground Sunday thanks to weather shortened 2-1 (five inning) victory. Clayton Kershaw improved to 5-2 with the lone run plated on three hits while striking out nine. Jeff Kemp drove in two runs in the first with a one out triple with Kershaw taking over from there. Dan Haren opens the series on the mound at Cincinnati on Monday. Haren has been dependable in 2014 but struggled last time out with four runs plated in six innings of a 4-1 loss to the White Sox.

Cincinnati has been playing well over the past few weeks and that needs to continue if the Reds are to become a factor in the National League Central. The Reds took a step in the right direction with a 4-1 victory versus visiting Philadelphia on Sunday for their 7th win in eleven contests. Homer Bailey was at his best with the lone run scored on six hits over eight innings to improve to 7-3. The bats rode a four run 5th with Billy Hamilton smacking a two run homer with Bailey singling in two more. Tony Cingrani gets Monday's start versus the visiting Dodgers on Monday night. Cingrani has not had a great beginning to the season with a 2-6 record and a 4.09 ERA over 12 outings.
Haren is having the better season on the mound but the Dodgers really struggle versus left handers and hopefully that helps Cingrani because I'm backing the Reds as a home dog...
