The St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays will meet up for a rare two-game series that begins Tuesday.
The Cardinals have lost eight of their last 12 games and are lucky to still be a couple of games above a .500 record. However, the Cards may be turning the corner, as they shut out the red hot Toronto Blue Jays in back-to-back games. While the Cardinals pitching has been up-and-down during this stretch, the offense has produced five or more runs in four of their last six games. Matt Carpenter has 15 hits in his last 10 games and Jon Jay has scored seven runs in his last 10 games. Adam Wainwright gets the nod, and he’s 8-3 with a 2.31 ERA and has 89 strikeouts in 93.1 innings. This will be Wainwright’s second career start against the Rays.

The Rays have been shutout in back-to-back games and have lost nine of their last 10 games. While the Rays ERA of 4.16 is god awful, it doesn’t help that their lineup has produced three or less runs in eight of their last 12 games. The Rays are by far one of the league’s most disappointing teams. James Loney has nine hits in his last 10 games, while David DeJesus has gotten on base at least once in eight straight games. Jake Odorizzi will start, and he’s 2-6 with a 5.31 ERA and has 71 strikeouts in 57.2 innings. This will be Odorizzi’s first career game against the Cardinals.
The Cardinals are 5-1 in Wainwright's last 6 road starts and 38-15 in Wainwright's last 53 starts as a favorite. The Rays are 1-4 in Odorizzi's last 5 home starts and 2-9 in Odorizzi's last 11 starts.
The Rays simply suck and with Wainwright on the mound, take the Cards for the fairly decent price.
