The Pittsburgh Pirates clash with the Chicago Cubs in a National League Central tilt.
The Cubs have been playing well over the past few weeks so will it continue going forward or will there be a slump in the near future. It was all positive for yet another day with a 7-3 victory at Pittsburgh with solid efforts on the mound and at the plate. Travis Wood allowed all three runs on nine hits over 6.2 frames which the bats made work with their eleven hit attack. Anthony Rizzo swung the big bat with a long ball and three RBI's while Luis Valbuena drove in a pair. Chicago gives Wednesday's start to Jason Hammel who faces the Pirates for the third time. Hammel has not allowed a run in consecutive starts and has a 6-3 record and 2.53 ERA overall.

Pittsburgh took the opener of their series but couldn't keep the momentum going Tuesday with the work on the mound and at the plate falling short. Lefty Francisco Liriano allowed two runs in three innings before the game got out of hand when Casey Sadler was charged with four runs in 2.2 frames. The Pirates offense probably gotten a few more runs with ten hits and four bases on balls. The Buccos received a home run and a pair of RBI's from Andrew McCutchen with Josh Harrison smacking a run scoring double. Brandon Cumpton takes the ball in game number two their series at PNC Park. Cumpton picked a 15-5 victory over Milwaukee with three runs plated in 5.1 innings.
Hammel has been lights out and the problem in backing him is his team isn't very good although he is winning. I lean to the Cubs but I expect the unexpected whenever I get involvd with them...
