The Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers face off on Thursday in Chicago as they close out their AL Central series.
The Chicago White Sox have been inconsistent this season but with their win on Wednesday they closed the gap on the first place Tigers to 2.5 games. Jose Abreu had three hits including a home run, Adam Dunn had two hits, and Alexei Ramirez had two hits as the White Sox scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher John Danks allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 5-5 for the season. For Thursday’s game the White Sox stat Chris Sale who is coming off of a brutal no decision in his last start. For the season Sale has allowed 26 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 58 over 52.1 innings for a 5-0 record and a 2.06 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers are in first place in the AL Central but they have been watching their lead dwindle as it did once again with Wednesday’s loss. Rajai Davis, Austin Jackson, and Nick Castellanos each had two hits as the Tigers scored two runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed eight hits and seven earned runs while striking out six over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-6 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Tigers start Max Scherzer who has allowed at least four runs in each of his last four starts. For the season Scherzer has allowed 81 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 98 over 85.1 innings for a 7-2 record and a 3.38 ERA.
Chicago is 6-2 in their last eight home games, 4-0in their last four games as a home favorite, and 6-2 Sale’s last eight starts. Detroit is 3-9 in their last 12 road games, 2-8 in their last 10 games, and 45-17 in Scherzer’s last 62 starts. Detroit is 8-2 in Scherzer’s last 10 starts against Chicago.
The total in this one is in the seven range and that is just too high with these two arms so my free pick is the under.
