The Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Saturday as they continue their series.
The Miami Marlins are trying to keep pace in the NL East but they lost a little ground on Friday losing to the Pirates. Giancarlo Stanton had three hits including a home run, Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits, and Casey McGehee had a hit as the Marlins scored six runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi allowed 10 hits and six runs while striking out three over 4.2 innings to not get a decision as Mike Dunn took the loss to fall to 5-4 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Randy Wolf who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Wolf has allowed 24 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 17 over 21.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 4.15 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates nearly let Friday’s game get away from them but they rallied and got the win. Gregory Polanco had five hits including a home run, Starling Marte had four hits including a home run, and Andrew McCutchen, Ike Davis, and Clint Barmes each had two hits as the Pirates scored eight runs on 17 hits. Starting pitcher Jeff Locke allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out seven over 8.0 innings to get a no decision as Mark Melancon blew the save and Jeanmar Gomez earned the win to go to 1-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Pirates start Charlie Morton whi has win three of his last four starts. For the season Morton has allowed 71 hits and 28 eared runs while striking out 61 over 80.1 innings for a 3-7 record and a 3.14 ERA.
Miami is 26-12 in their last 38 home games, 15-5 as a home underdog, and 16-38 against the NL Central. Pittsburgh is 6-2 in their last eight road games, 8-3 against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 in Morton’s last five road starts. Pittsburgh is 5-1 in their last six games against Miami.
The total is set at eight but I like the over in this spot. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
