The Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox meet Tuesday for game two of three at Fenway Park.
The Twins have lost five of their last eight games and have now fallen to the bottom of the AL Central. The Twins pitching staff has allowed four or more runs in nine of their last 14 games and have a season ERA of 4.43. The Twins offense was the problem in Monday’s loss, as they were shutout and strung together just three hits. Brian Dozier has three homers in his last six games and Kurt Suzuki has hit safely in eight of his last nine games. Phil Hughes gets the nod, and he’s 7-2 with a 3.17 ERA and has 72 strikeouts in 82.1 innings. Hughes is 5-7 with a 5.40 ERA in 23 career games against the Red Sox.
USA TODAY Sports
The Red Sox continue their struggles, as they’re 6-9 in the month of June and six games below .500. The Red Sox offence continues to be their downfall, as they’ve scored three or less runs in six of their last seven games. David Ortiz has nine RBI in his last 10 games and Grady Sizemore has gotten on base at least once in five of his last six games. The Red Sox pitching has an ERA of 3.75. Jon Lester takes the hill, and he’s 7-7 with a 3.33 ERA and has 99 strikeouts in 92 innings. Lester is 1-4 with a 4.74 ERA in nine career starts against the Twins.
The Twins are 9-1 in Hughes' last 10 starts and 6-0 in Hughes' last 6 starts as a road underdog. The Red Sox are 6-2 in Lester's last 8 starts with 4 days of rest and 16-7 in Lester's last 23 home starts.
It's hard not to pick Lester at home, although I'm not too crazy about the line. If you think the price is fair, take the Sox to pick up the W.
