The San Francisco Giants look to break out of their recent slide at the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday.
San Francisco is suffering through their first real slowdown of 2014 although they still control the National League West. Their normally dependable work on the mound has struggled in defeats in seven of eight with the trend continuing in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the White Sox. Matt Cain didn't snap out of his funk with all eight runs plated on ten hits including two homers over five innings of work. The SF offense couldn't save him with Hunter Pence going deep and Pablo Sandoval singling in another to give the Giants a shortlived 2-0 lead by the 3rd but nothing else. Veteran Tim Hudson will be on the hill facing the White Sox Wednesday. Hudson is one reason San Francisco sits atop the NL West with a 7-2 record with a 1.81 ERA in 12 outings.

The White Sox have been fading a bit lately which is threatening to negate a decent start to the season. Chicago had dropped seven of nine before the pitching and hitting finally came together in Tuesday's decision against the visiting Giants. Lefty John Danks was at his best by limiting an explosive offense to a single earned run through 6.1 frames to get the win. The offense didn't pound the ball with eight hits but bunched them together with Gordon Beckham and Dayan Viciedo connecting on two run homers. Ace Chris Sale shoots for win number six when he squares off with the big bats of San Francisco. Sale is 5-1 with 1.97 ERA in nine outings with a 0.67 WHIP.
The price seems a bit steep on the White Sox with Hudson going for San Francisco but Sale is the best the Sox have and get a slight nod from me...
