Target Field and the Minnesota Twins host the Chicago White Sox in the series opener Thursday.
The White Sox have been slumping over the last week or so and it has cost them them ground in the American League Central. Chicago had dropped seven of nine before holding off San Francisco 7-6 Wednesday where the pen nearly blew a four run lead. Chris Sale picked up his 6th win with three runs plated over six frames before Zach Putnam and Ronald Belisario allowed three runs to make things interesting. The CWS pounded out 12 hits with Jose Abreu launching a two run bomb while Adam Dunn homered and drove in three. Left hander Jose Quintana is scheduled to start game one of the series at Minnesota. Quintana has struggled the past two times out with a combined ten runs scored in 10.1 frames.

Minnesota is in the same boat as their counterparts in that they have been struggling and have lost ground in the division race. The Twins let one get away in Wednesday's 2-1, ten inning defeat at Boston which saddled the team with five consecutive defeats. The offense deserves the Lion's Share of the blame with only four hits but they took the lead in the top of the 10th on Chris Parmelee's solo jack in what seemed to be enough with with the Twins pitching being dominant. Kyle Gibson tossed a one hitter through seven frames but Casey Fein gave up consecutive homers in the 10th to cough up the game. Yohan Pino makes his Major League debut against the White Sox on Thursday. Pino has been in the minors for ten years but has gone 9-1 with a 1.92 ERA at AAA in 2014.
I have no idea what we'll see from Pino although he has been outstanding in AAA. I'll back Quintana and hope the recent struggles are over but I prefer not betting a game with an unknown on the mound...
