The Philadelphia Phillies visit Busch Stadium to tangle with the St Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
I don't like the look of the Phillies in 2014 but at the end of the day they are winning right now and obviously need to continue down this path. The Phils have won 6-8 after a 10-5 rout of Atlanta on Sunday gave them the road sweep of their National League Central rivals. Starter Roberto Hernandez gave up four runs in the first but settled down to allow one more over six innings to get the win. That was plenty good enough with the offense unleashing an 18 hit attack that saw Marlon Byrd go deep and driving in three with John Mayberry adding three more RBI's while Ryan Howard drove in two more. Rookie David Buchanan shoots for consecutive victories when he takes the hill versus St Louis on Thursday. Buchanan defeated the Cubs 7-4 last time out with three solo homers given up in five frames.

The Cardinals are hot again and that is keeping the pressure on the NL Central leading Brewers. The Redbirds fell to the visiting Mets 3-2 in the series finale' on Wednesday but still have won eight of eleven behind solid scoring and pitching. Only the pitching showed up Wednesday with Lance Lynn taking the loss with a pair of runs scored on five hits and four walks through six innings of work with Seth Maness giving up a decisive run in the 7th. The offense was quiet with only six hits with Matt Carpenter ing a solo bomb and Allen Craig logging an RBI single. Shelby Miller takes the ball in the series opener against the suddenly hot Philadelphia offense. Miller has been outstanding the past two times out with just one run scored in 12.2 innings.
Both teams are playing well but to me the difference on the mound makes the Cardinals the pick although too much chalk for me. Besides I want the Phillies to win so hopefully I'm wrong...
