The Los Angeles Dodgers travel to Petco Park to tangle with division rival the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers picked a great time to get at least a little hot with NL West leading San Francisco suffering through their first slowdown of 2014. The Dodgers have won seven of ten with both the bats and the arms getting on the same page. Everything fell in to place in an 8-0 victory over Colorado with Clayton Kershaw tossing a no hitter and striking out 15 with a lone runner reaching base on an error. The offense totaled nine hits and walked six times with Miguel Rojas leading the way with three RBI's while Adrian Gonzalez and Matt Kemp knocking in two apiece. Los Angeles opens the series on the hill with Dan Haren who has thrown the ball well in 2014. Haren has gone 7-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 14 outings.

While I constantly talk about the Padres lack of scoring punch being a souce of their struggles, the work on the mound hasn't helped the situation the past several weeks which has contributed to losses in eight of eleven. The Padres got back in the win column via a 4-1 victory over the Mariners behind youngster Jesse Hahn who gave up the lone run on five hits and a pair of free passes through seven innings while striking out seven. The offense mustered six hits and a trio of walks with Everth Cabrera leading with a pair of RBI's. Ian Kennedy looks to control the dangerous bats of the visiting Dodgers in the first game of the series. Kennedy has dropped back to back contests with eight runs allowed over 12.1 innings.
For whatever reason I'm always hesitant to back Haren and I feel that way against Kennedy who is always capable. I'm backing him but the Dodgers offense is part of the deal...
