The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians square off in the second game of their series on Saturday.
Detroit looked like a sure thing in the AL Central early on but the past several weeks have been miserable. Things have been easy in this stretch with blown leads, poor pitching and hitting all being a common theme. The Tigers almost blew another lead before holding on to upend Cleveland 6-4 Friday. Rick Porcello received a no decision despite six scoreless frames with Ian Krol allowing all four runs in 2/3 of an inning. The long ball saved Detroit with JD Martinez and Victor Martinez going deep and knocking in five. Justin Verlander looks to right the ship when he takes the hill versus Cleveland on Saturday. Verlander has dropped three in a row with 19 runs plated on 28 hits in 18.2 innings of work.

Cleveland was the opposite of Detroit to kick off the year as they started slow and have been forced to play catch up. The Indians have been playing better and the result is they are back in the middle of the American League Central race. The Indians took a step back in Friday's defeat with some late offense unable to overcome poor work out of the pen. Corey Kluber gave up two runs through seven innings before John Axford saw things get out of hand with three runs plated in only 2/3 of an inning. Carlos Santana blasted a solo shot and Ascrubal Cabrera nailed a three run homer to make things close but that was all it did. The Indians are scheduled to start Trevor Bauer for the 8th time against the big bats of the Tigers. Bauer brings in a 2-3 record with 4.20 ERA and a WHIP of 1.40.
How many times do we see Verlander as a dog in this situation? Not often but I'm inclined to back the Indians from what I have see from the Tigers...
