The San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers face off on Sunday at PETCO Park as they close out their series.
The San Diego Padres attempted to launch a late inning rally on Saturday against the Dodgers but it came up short as they took the home loss. Alexi Amarista had two hits and Everth Cabrera, Tommy Medica, and Rene Rivera each had hits as the Padres scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out five over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-7 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Eric Stults who has lost his last six decisions. For the season Stults has allowed 1-2 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 41 over 75 innings for a 2-9 record and a 5.76 ERA.

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t get much done offensively on Saturday but it was good enough to get the win in San Diego. Hanley Ramirez had two hits and Dee Gordon, Matt Kemp, and Adrian Gonzalez each had hits as the Dodgers scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Josh Beckett allowed four hits and struck out eight over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 5-4 for the season and Kenley Hansen earned his 21st save. For Sunday’s game the Dodgers start Hyub-Jin Ryu who has won five of his last six starts. For the season Ryu has allowed 76 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 64 over 76.1 innings for an 8-3 record and a 3.18 ERA.
San Diego is 4-10 in their last 14 games, 2-7 in game three of a series, and 5-2 in Stults’ last seven home starts. Los Angeles is 5-1 in their last six games, 2-6 in their last eight Sunday games, and 4-1 in Ryu’s last five starts against the NL West. Los Angeles is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings of these two.
The total is set at 7.5 which seems low but we have a control pitcher in Stults and Ryu who can get it doe every way so I can se this one staying under but that us really just a lean. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
