The Cincinnati Reds head to Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs in NL Central action.
Cincinnati appears to be finally out of the early season doldrums and headed in the right direction. The Reds have won eight of eleven to reach .500 with their sights set on a much bigger prize as the Brewers wh currently sit atop the National League Central. The Reds held off Toronto 4-3 on Sunday behind Johnny Cueto who survived some shoddy defense and the Blue Jays bats with one of the three runs earned. Todd Frazier swung the big bat with a homer and two RBI's and two runs scored. A hot Alfredo Simon opens the series on the mound versus the Cubs. Simon is the main reason the Reds have stayed afloat in the Central with his 10-3 record and 3.05 ERA.

The Cubs played the Pirates pretty well this past weekend but at the end of the day their offense could not get anything going. The Cubbies fell to visiting Pittsburgh 2-1 on Sunday in the rubber game of their series with bats unable to support a strong performance on the mound from Jason Hammel who gave up both runs on six hits through seven frames. The offense totaled hits with the lone run scored on a ground out off the bat of Nate Schierholtz. Jeff Samardzija is scheduled to be on the mound to face visiting Cincinnati on Monday. Samardzija is only 2-6 despite a 2.60 ERA while the team is 3-12 in his outings.
Samardzija is dangerous but Simon has been very good and he is winning as well which tells me to back him and the Reds...
