The Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers face off on Thursday in Arlington as they close out their series.
The Texas Rangers have battled injuries all season and we could see the effects this week and on Wednesday as they fell to the Tigers. Adroan Beltre had three hits, Carlos Pena had two hits including a home run, and Shin-Soo Choo and Robinson Chirinos each had two hits as the Rangers scored six runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Joe Saunders allowed seven hits and six runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-4 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Rangers start Nicholas Martinez who has lost his last three decisions. For the season Martinez has allowed 69 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 28 over 59.2 innings for a 1-4 record and a 4.22 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers continued their strong play on Wednesday and beat the Rangers for their sixth win in a row. Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez each hit home runs and Ian Kinsler added two hits as the Tigers scored eight runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez allowed six hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings to get the win and raise his record to 5-2 for the season and Joe Nathan earned his 16th save. For Thursday’s game the Tigers start Rick Porcello who got the win in his last start. For the season Porcello has allowed 89 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 56 over 88.2 innings for a 9-4 record and a 3.76 ERA.
Texas is 1-6 in their last seven home games, 0-7 in their last seven games, and 0-4 in Martinez’s last four starts. Detroit is 6-0 in their last six road games, 3-7 in game three of a series, and 21-7 in Porcello’s last 28 starts. Detroit is 5-11 in their last 16 games in Texas.
The Rangers are in a tailspin but as a home dog here I like heir chances enough to take them as my play.
