The San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Saturday at PETCO Park for game two of their series.
The San Diego Padres have struggled to score runs and that was the case on Friday as they lost to the Diamondbacks. Chase Headley had two hits and Cameron Maybin and Yasmani Grandal had hits as the Padres scored just one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed five hits and two runs while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-8 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Padres start Eric Stults who has lost his last five starts and his last seven decisions. For the season Stults has allowed 108 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 46 over 82 innings for a 2-10 record and a 5.49 ERA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have never recovered from their slow start to the season but they played well enough on Friday to beat the Padres. Aaron Hill had two hits and Ender Inciarte and Miguel Montero each had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 2-10 for the season and Addison Reed earned his 18th save, For Saturday’s game Arizona starts Josh Collmenter who has won his last two starts. For the season Collmenter has allowed 82 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 52 over 86 innings for a 6-4 record and a 3.87 ERA.
San Diego is 3-8 in their last 11 home games against a team with a losing record, 1-7 against a team with a losing record, and 0-5 in Stults’ last five home starts. Arizona is 5-14 against a left-handed starter, 0-6 following a win, and 5-11 in Collmetner’s last 16 road starts. Arizona is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The total in this one is set at seven but I will take the over despite Friday’s low score but honestly it is a lean at best. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
