The Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros finish up their series at Minute Maid Park Sunday afternoon.
Detroit appears to have righted the ship as they rode seven game winning streak back to the top of the American League Central. The Tigers saw their hot streak end Friday but they got right back in the win column with a 4-3 victory Saturday. Max Scherzer gave up two first inning runs but that was it over 7.1 frames while striking out 13. Of course the pen gave up another run with Joe Nathan serving up a 9th inning homer. Ian Kinsler saved the Tigers with his three run jack in the top of the 9th. Drew Smyly will be on the bump for Sunday's bout at Minute Maid Park. Smyly has thrown the ball well over his last three with only three runs given up in this stretch but he is only 1-2.

Houston had the look of a much improved team a few short weeks ago but defeats in seven of ten bring us back to the realization that the Astros still need a few pieces. The Astros appeared to be on their way to consecutive victories over visiting Detroit until their 9th inning meltdown by the bull pen. That cost Brett Oberholtzer a win as his one run effort through 6.1 innings went for naught. Jerome Williams turned out to be the goat when he was tagged for Ian Kinsler's three run homer. The offense posted eight hits with Alex Pressley rapping a two run single and 9th inning solo homer. Scott Feldman toes the rubber in the final game of the series with the Tigers at home. Feldman has done a decent job in 2014 but is only 3-5 with an ERA of four.
Smyly has really been throwing the ball well and ha the advantage on the hill but the concern is he has not gotten support. Hopefully he does Sunday because I'm backing the Tigers...
