The Chicago Cubs have one of the worst records in baseball as they try and justify horrific play and top dollar ticket prices as part of the building experience. The Cubs are 15-26 on the road this season, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two games. As a team the Cubs are hitting .232 with Starlin Castro hitting .283, Anthony Rizzo hitting .282, and Luis Valbuena hitting .271. The Cubs pitching staff has an ERA of 3.56 with the starters at 3.78 and the bullpen at 3.13. For game one against the Sox the Cubs start Jake Arrieta who has won his last three starts. For the season Arrieta has allowed 48 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 64 over 57 innings for a 4-1 record and a 2.05 ERA.
Boston is 10-2 in their last 12 home games, 5-2 in their last seven games as a favorite, and 0-5 in Peavy’s last five home starts. Chicago is 4-1 in game one of a series, 17-36 in their last 53 road games, and 4-1 in Arrieta’s last five starts. Chicago is 2-5 in the last seven meetings of these two.
Peavy hasn’t been able to buy a win but he hasn’t been facing the Cubs either who are a joke from top to bottom in their organization and a disgrace to the sport of baseball. The Cubs are not about winning baseball games, they are a business, and they have made it clear they don’t care about the baseball aspect and it will show again here.
