The Line: Boston Red Sox -144 / Chicago Cubs +134 --- Over/Under: 9 See the Latest Odds

TV: WCIU, NESN, ESPN

The Chicago Cubs look to sweep the Boston Red Sox on ESPN Wednesday night.

The Cubs have won five of their last eight games and have moved within 10 games of a .500 record. The Cubs pitching has to be dominant for them to keep this up, as they’ve allowed three or less runs in six of their last eight games. With a 3.50 ERA on the season, the Cubs have won 18 of their last 20 games when holding a team to three or less runs. Offensively, Starlin Castro has five hits in his last three games. Travis Wood takes the mound, and he’s 7-6 with a 4.52 ERA and has 77 strikeouts in 95.2 innings. This is Wood’s first career game against the Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago Cubs MLB Pick, Odds, Prediction - 7/2/14

USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox have lost five of their last eight games and are eight games below .500. The Red Sox offense continues to struggle by being held to three or less runs in six of their last eight games. The Red Sox have lost eight of their last 10 games when that’s the case. One of the few players hitting the ball well is Dustin Pedroia, who has 14 hits in his last 10 games. The Red Sox have an ERA of 3.75, 14th best in the league. Starting is Brandon Workman, who is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA and has 33 strikeouts in 41.1 innings. This is Workman’s first career game against the Cubs.

The Cubs are 4-1 in Woods last 5 road starts and 7-2 in Woods last 9 starts as an underdog. The Red Sox are 121-55 in their last 176 interleague games and 14-3 in their last 17 interleague games vs. a left-handed starter.

While there's a good chance the Red Sox snap out of their funk and get the W, there's an even better chance the Cubs find a way to win and Boston's issues remain. I just don't trust the Red Sox right now and they're certainly not worth the juice. Take the Cubs.
