The Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals face off on Wednesday at Target Field for game three of their series.
The Minnesota Twins came out swinging on Tuesday as they clobbered to Royals. Eduardo Nonez had three hits including a home run, Kendrys Morales had three hits, and Chris Parmalee and Kurt Suzuki had two hits each as the Twins scored 10 runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco allowed eight hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 5-6 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Twins start Kevin Correia who has lot two of hos last three starts. For the season Correia has allowed 111 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 45 over 90.1 innings for a 4-9 record and a 5.08 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals are looking to get a playoff spot this season but they were blown out on Tuesday in Minnesota. Eric Hosmer had four hits and Billy Butler and Danny Valencia each had hits as the Royals scored just two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed nine hits and five runs, four earned, while striking out five over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-4 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Royals start Jesse Vargas who has a loss and a no decision in his last two starts. For the season Vargas has allowed 115 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 74 over 112.1 innings for a 7-3 record and a 3.53 ERA.
Minnesota is 4-11 in their last 15 games as an underdog, 2-6 against a team with a winning record, and 3-12 in Correia’s last 15 starts against a team with a winning record. Kansas City is 9-3 in their last 12 road games, 27-12 as a road favorite, and 5-2 in Vargas’ last seven starts as a favorite. Kansas City is 21-11 in the last 32 meetings of these two.
