The San Francisco Giants and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Wednesday in San Francisco as they continue their series.
The San Francisco Giants got the win on Tuesday over the Giants and moved back into first place in the NL West. Pablo Sandoval had two hits including a home run, Hunter Pence had two hits, and Buster Posey had a hit as the Giants scored five runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Tim Lincecum allowed four hits and struck out six over 8.0 innings to get the win to raise his record to 7-5 for the season. Start Ryan Vogelsong who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Vogelsong has allowed 91 hits and 40 earned runs while striking out 78 over 91 innings for a 5-4 record and a 3.96 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals are having a tough road trip and it didn’t get any better as tey were shutout by the Giants on Tuesday. Matt Carpenter, Matt Adams, and Yadier Molina each had hits as the Cardinals had five hits in all. Starting pitcher Marco Gonzalez allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out two over 4.1 innings to take the loss to fall to 0-1 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who is coming off of a loss in his last start. For the season Wainwright has allowed 83 hits and 26 earned runs while striking out 105 over 116.1 innings for a 10-4 record and a 2.01 ERA.
San Francisco is 2-4 in their last six games, 0-4 as a home underdog, and 12-4 in Vogelsong’s last 16 starts against the NL West. St. Louis is 1-5 in their last six games, 2-7 against a right-handed starter, and 3-7 in Wainwright’s last 10 road starts against a team with a winning record. St. Louis is 2-6 in their last eight games in San Francisco.
