The Washington Nationals need another win versus the Colorado Rockies to stay in the NL East chase.
The Rockies season once looked bright but has turned in to one of survival with the team unable to get their offense and pitching in gear. Their was no relief to be found Tuesday with both units struggling in a 7-1 defeat at Washington. A struggling Christian Friedrich fell to 0-3 and saw his ERA rise to over nine with five runs scored on five hits and four free passes in just 3.1 innings of work. The offense never established anything with five hits to lean on with DJ LeMahieu slugging his third homer. Rookie left hander Tyler Matzek makes his 5th start of the season and first ever versus Washington. Matzek is 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA with a 1.41 WHIP.

Washington might not be as fearsome as the group that won the National League East but they certainly are playing better then last couple of seasons. The goal is to stay close to Atlanta and eventually take over the division and they haven't hurt themselves with wins in eight of eleven. Stephen Strasburg brought his 'A' game with a soloo homer served up through 7.2 innings of work to improve to 7-6. The Nationals offense knocked out ten hits and walked seven times with Jayson Werth knocking in a trio of runs while Anthony Rendon drove in two more and scored twice. Right hander Doug Fister is scheduled to be on the mound Wednesday to face Colorado for the second time in his career. Fister is 6-2 with a 2.83 ERA while the Nats have gone 7-3 in his ten outings.
As expected the chalk is huge in this one and I look at this and think which team would you take based on recent performances. The answer has to be Washington or just walk away but the only way to play it is on the run line which I hate...
