The Texas Rangers are a shell of the team we have seen compete and in some years dominate the AL West as departing Free Agents combined with a wave of injuries has been more than they can overcome this season. The Rangers are 19-24 on the road this season, 2-8 in their last 10 games, and they have lost four games in a row. As a team the Rangers are hitting .260 with Adrian Beltre hitting .335, Alex Rios hitting .305, and Leonys Martin hitting .275. As a team the Rangers pitching staff has an ERA of 4.62 with the starters at 4.72 and the bullpen at 4.44. For game one against the Mets the Rangers start Yu Darvish who was moved back from Thursdays expected start. For the season Darvish has allowed 86 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 128 over 104.1 innings for an 8-4 record and a 2.42 ERA.
New York is 7-21 following an of day, 1-8 in their last nine interleague home games, and 1-4 in Niese’s last five starts in game one of a series. Texas is 1-4 against a left-handed starter, 2-6 in their last eight interleague games against a team with a losing record, and 6-2 in Darvish’s last eight road starts. Texas is 2-6 in the last eight meetings of these two.
When Tepesch was listed as the starter for Texas I liked the Mets chances, not so much with Darvish though I expect a competitive game.
