The Oakland A’s and the Toronto Blue Jays face off on Friday for game two of their series among MLB division leaders.
The Oakland A’s continue to have baseball’s best record and they improved it on Thursday defeating the Blue Jays. Brandon Moss, John Jaso, and Eric Sogard were among those getting hits as the Athletics scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed four hits and a run while striking out five over 7.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 8-3 for the season and Sean Doolittle earned his 12th save. For Friday’s game the A’s start Tommy Milone who has won his last six decisions after losing his first three this season. For the year Milone has allowed 87 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 55 over 90.1 innings for a 6-3 record and a 3.79 ERA.

The Toronto Blue Jays struggled with Oakland pitching losing game one of their series to the A’s. Josh Thole had two hits and Jose Bautista, Adam Lind, and Edwin Encarnacion each had hits as the Blue Jays scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher R.A. Dickey allowed six hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out six over 8.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-8 for the season. For Friday’s game the Blue Jays start Marcus Stroman who hasn’t allowed more than three runs in any of his starts. For the season Stroman has allowed 43 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 36 over 42.2 innings for a 4-2 record and a 4.01 ERA.
Oakland is 5-1 in game 2 of a series, 88-40 as a home favorite, and 7-1 in Milone’s last eight starts. Toronto is 4-0 on the road against a left-handed starter, 1-6 as a road underdog, and 6-3 against the AL West.
